Since 1992, Schlumberger has been an integral part of
the Olympic Movement through the expertise of its IT
business entity Schlumberger. The involvement of Schlumberger
in the Olympic Games began in 1989, when a group of
consultants joined the project for Barcelona 1992. Since
then, the company has played a major part in the Olympic
Games, starting with Barcelona
1992 through Atlanta
1996 and Nagano 1998
to Sydney 2000.

As the Worldwide Information Technology
Partner and a Top Sponsor of the Olympic Games, Schlumberger
is now responsible for the world's largest-ever sporting
events IT contract for four games and eight years,
that has successfully started with Salt Lake City
in 2002. At the Winter Games, more than 300 Schlumberger
people managed a vast IT system that relayed information
in real time to the participants, audiences and media.
Among other key IT applications, the same team provided
IT-enabled accreditations to the 89,000 athletes,
officials, sponsors and media representatives to ensure
their safe and secure movement between the 78 events
held across 10 sporting and 30 non-competition venues.
